East Side Edged by Grafton Hill
Worcester, MA --- Grafton Hill Post 323 scored three unearned runs in the top of the first en route to a 3-2 victory over host East
Side Post 201 on Saturday night in a Massachusetts American Legion Zone 4 contest at Tivnan Field.
PJ Barry was a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and Sean Murphy had a 2-for-3 night at the dish for East Side. Steve Albert allowed
the first inning runs before setting down 16 Grafton Hill batters in-a-row and 17 overall. He ended up with six strikeouts in the
Ryan Ward, Mike Piekarczyk and Josh Riley each had a hit for Post 323 while Joe Caico walked twice. Nick Johnson surrendered
two runs on nine hits and struck out four in the complete game.
The first two runs came on an RBI single by Piekarczyk along with a miscue on the play. Another miscue allowed Piekarczyk to score
for the 3-0 advantage.
After leaving eight runners stranded through five innings, East Side finally broke through with a pair of runs in the sixth. Jono
Crimmin scored on a miscue and Barry scampered home on a sacrifice bunt by Dezi Garcia. Each team then left two aboard in their
respective portion of the seventh.
Both teams return to action at The Lake Saturday night. East Side hosts Cherry Valley at 5pm and Grafton Hill entertains Milford at
