East Side Wins Northeast Regional Opener, 13-9

Middletown, CT --- Nate Frederick put the Raiders ahead for good with a three run home run as he teamed with Peter Bovenzi and Joe
Consolmagn
o to account for nine of the team's 16 hits - three each - to lead East Side Post 201 to a 13-9 win over Colchester, VT on the
opening day of the 2013 American Legion Baseball Northeast Regional at Palmer Field on Thursday afternoon. East Side (22-9) will face
host Middletown, CT tomorrow night at 7:30pm while the Cannons (26-10) will meet Windham, ME at 12:30pm.

Frederick (3-for-5) finished with four RBI and two runs scored as Bovenzi (3-for-5) drove in two and crossed home plate once.
Consolmagno (3-for-4) tallied three RBI and three runs scored.
Jimmy Smith added a 2-for-6 day with two runs while Erik Lacaire
pushed one run across in a 2-for-5 outing.
Jack Riley notched the lone triple of the game as Smith, Frederick and Tim Brutto each tallied
a double. All nine spots in the order reached at least once via a hit or a walk.

Josh Rylant paced Colchester with a 3-for-4 day at the plate and touched home plate twice. Brett McAllister chipped in with a 2-for-3
afternoon with an RBI and a run scored as he and
Zachary Tandy each recorded a double for the Cannons.

Zach Zona improved to 6-1 on the season with a seven inning effort. Zona allowed five runs - four earned - on five hits with five walks and
six punchouts.
Steve Albert yielded four runs on three hits and issued a trio of free passes in one-plus innings. Cam Frederick finished
the game on the hill for the Raiders.

Sean Callahan moved to 6-2 on the year as he went five and a third before Ryan Connor took over for the final two and two thirds.

East Side used a pair of two-out hits to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Bovenzi legged out a single to short and was chased
home on Riley's triple to deep center field. The same sequence also saw Riley awarded home following a Colchester miscue.

The Cannons answered back and gained the 4-2 advantage in the top of the third. Tandy's double produced a pair of runs to even the game
at 2-2.
Cassidy Moore singled to right and Jared Rylant hit into a fielder's choice as each pushed a run across.

Post 201 knotted the game at 4-all with a pair in the home half of the frame. Nate Frederick doubled to left center to plate Consolmagno
and Bovenzi used a run-producing single to center field.

The Raiders pushed ahead for the final time as Frederick launched a home run to left center to take the 7-4 lead in the fourth.

After a scoreless fifth, Colchester inched back with an unearned run on a ground out by Connor. An RBI double by Brutto and a pair of
singles by Consolmagno and Bovenzi led to three more Raider runs for a 10-5 bulge after six innings.

Following a defensive clinic by Smith in the top of the seventh, Consolmago drove in two more in the bottom of the frame with a single to
right field.

The teams traded a run in the eighth as McAllister doubled down the left field line for Colchester and East Side's Lacaire singled through
the left side.

Colchester mounted a three run rally in the top of the ninth beginning with Moore being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Jared
Rylant reached on an RBI fielder's choice and
Brandon Arel reached on a miscue just before a double play to end the game.
