East Side Advances to National Bound State Tournament Semifinals

Worcester, MA ---Joe Consolmagno led all batters with three hits - all doubles - and five RBI while Zach Zona struck out six in a
complete game one-hitter as East Side Post 201 advanced to the Massachusetts American Legion Baseball National Bound State
Tournament semifinals with a 13-3 victory over Walpole Post 104 in an abbreviated seven-inning game at Tivnan Field at Lake Park.

Post 201 (17-4), currently riding an eight-game winning streak, moves on to face Sudbury at 4pm on Friday at Fitton Field.

Following a delayed start and a venue change, East Side took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first when
Regan Aghdam was plunked
with the bases loaded. Post 201 added another run in the second courtesy of a Consolmagno sacrifice fly to right.

Walpole pushed all three of its runs across in the bottom of the second.
Billy Mitchell cut the deficit in half with an RBI walk. Zona
struck out the next two batters before yielding his only hit of the day, a two-RBI single, to
Matt Lavanchy. The Raiders went on to set
down the next Post 104 batters in order.

East Side responded with its first four-run frame of the contest.
Brandon O'Connor began the third with a triple to center field and
promptly scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning,
Jack Riley sent a sacrifice fly to center field that was misplayed to give the Raiders a
4-3 advantage.
Peter Bovenzi also scored on the play. Consolmagno capped the outburst with an RBI double to right field.

Post 201 widened the gap with another four-run inning in the fourth.
Nate Frederick tripled to center and was chased home on an
O'Connor single through the right side. He eventually came home on a passed ball.
Cam Frederick connected on a run-producing single
and crossed home plate following a Consolmagno double to right center.

The Raiders put the game away in the top of the seventh. Riley kicked things off with a sacrifice fly to left. Consolmagno then delivered
the dagger in the form of a two-run double to right center.

Zona (5-1) surrendered three runs on one hit and walked seven in the win.

Three Walpole pitchers went two innings each as
Mike Gaughan suffered the setback and James Newman tossed a scoreless fifth a sixth.
Mike Baryski
relieved Gaughan and Jack Donnelly finished the game for Post 104.

O'Connor finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Cam Frederick was 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs as Nate
Frederick (2-for-3) drew two walks and crossed home plate once.
Jimmy Smith had a pair of hits, Tim Brutto walked twice and Aghdam
pitched in with a trio of runs.

Walpole (13-3-1) returns to District 6 action tomorrow with a 5:45 game at Norfolk.
