Post 201 Shuts Down Grafton Hill, 4-0
Worcester, MA ---Zach Zona and Tim Brutto combined to hurl a one-hit shutout while Jack Riley hit a two-run double and stole home
in a 4-0 East Side Post 201 victory over host Grafton Hill Post 323 in an American Legion Zone 4 matchup on Friday night at Tivnan
Field at Lake Park. East Side (10-4 overall) sits atop the First 13 standings (9-2) with two games remaining Grafton Hill is now 6-4 in
Zona and Nick Economos each carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning despite allowing a total of 12 batters to reach first base.
Economos' bid was halted by a one-out infield single by Brandon O'Connor. Riley followed with his two run-double to put the Raiders on
the board. Riley later swiped home following a pitching change.
Grafton Hill loaded the bases in the bottom of the frame courtesy of an infield miscue and a pair of walks only to see a grounder to third
strand all three.
Zona's no-no attempt was broken up in the sixth on a Ryan Ward single through the left side of the infield for Post 323's lone base hit.
East Side pushed an insurance runner across home plate as Cam Frederick sent the ball through the right side of the infield to plate Zona.
Peter Bovenzi walked in each of his three plate appearances as Brutto and Joe Consolmagno each drew a pair of free passes.
Zona, named to the ESPN Boston MIAA All-State Baseball Team earlier in the day, struck out 10 en route to his third win of the season.
Brutto induced a pair of fly outs and a ground out in an inning of relief for the Raiders.
Economos and Ryan Belinskas combined to strike out eight batters for the hosts.
Both squads return to Tivnan Field on Saturday for an American Legion doubleheader as East Side welcomes Wachusett at 5pm and
Grafton Hill entertains Leominster at 7:30pm.
