Post 201 Snaps Four-Game Drought Against Shrewsbury With 4-0 Victory
Worcester, MA --- Zach Zona scattered four hits and struck out nine in a complete game shutout as the East Side Post 201 Raiders
defeated visiting Shrewsbury Post 397, 4-0, in an American Legion Zone 4 tilt on Saturday evening at Tivnan Field at Lake Park. In
addition to evening out at 2-2 in First 13 games, the Raiders (2-3) ended a four-game drought against Shrewsbury (2-2, 2-2 First 13).
Post 201 last topped Post 397 on June 23, 2010 in a 10-3 decision at The Lake.
Zona, who picked up his first win (1-1) as a Raider, traded zeroes on the scoreboard with Matt Howard through three frames.
Shrewsbury loaded the bases in the top of the fourth courtesy of a pair of base hits and a walk; however, a grounder to second ended the
threat. Nate Frederick and Jack Riley then used back-to-back RBI knocks in the bottom of the frame to help the Raiders take advantage
of a pair of miscues for the 2-0 lead.
Post 201 tacked on another run in the fifth and again in the sixth as Jimmy Smith sent a sacrifice fly to left and Zona slugged an RBI
double to right center, respectively.
Howard (0-1) allowed four runs - two earned - on six hits and struck out three in five and two-thirds. Sam Hayes fanned the only batter
Tim Brutto and Regan Aghdam as well as Smith, Frederick, Riley and Zona each had a hit for the Raiders while Zach Twitchell, Mike
Coggeshall, Logan Lee and Dan Quinlivan each recorded a safety for Shrewsbury.
East Side plays the middle game of a five-game homestand tomorrow against Cherry Valley. First pitch is now slated for 3pm at Tivnan
Field at Lake Park. Shrewsbury hosts Grafton Hill on Monday at 5:30pm.
