Raiders Edged by Milford, 4-3

Milford, MA --- Joe Cortese drove in the go-ahead run and Matt Ferrelli batted 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored as
Milford held off visiting East Side to claim a 4-3 American Legion Zone 4 victory on Wednesday night at Fino Field.

Cortese used a two-out single to right center to snap the 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fifth to plate Ferrelli who led off the frame with a
knock to right center.

Post 59's
Scott Hubener reached base three times as he went 1-for-2 at the plate with a pair of walks while East Side's Nate Frederick
had a 2-for-3 evening with a run scored.

Milford dented the scoreboard twice in the bottom of the first starting with an RBI single by Ferrelli.
Nick Crivello followed with a
run-producing ground out. The hosts tacked on another tally in the second as
Andy McMillan reached on a fielder's choice to the middle of
the infield to help plate a run.

East Side began to erase the three-run deficit courtesy of an RBI double off the bat of
Jimmy Smith in the top of the third.  Tim Brutto
doubled down the left field line and later scored on a ground out put into play by
Jack Riley to even the game at 3-all in the fourth.

Post 201 stranded four runners while Milford left 10 on base. Each team also turned an inning-ending double play.

Dan Avery allowed three runs on seven hits in six-plus innings of action for the victory in addition to striking out three. Kevin Martinis
came in to finish the game and collect the save.

Joe Consolmagno was tagged with the loss despite fanning three batters and not allowing an earned run on two hits in two innings. Jack
Rikey
started the game for the Raiders and surrendered three runs - two earned - on six hits and struck out two over four innings of work.

East Side (0-3, 0-2 First 13) is slated to open a five-game homestand beginning on Friday when Post 201 is scheduled to host Auburn at
5pm at Tivnan Field at Lake Park. Milford (2-0, 2-0 First 13) ventures to North County for a 5:30 game on Thursday.
